Strokes in Democratic Republic of Congo, a study conducted by Target
Strokes refer to a pathology which is progressively spreading in DRC these recent years. People who had a stroke are either going to die due to lack of relevant health care or live with aftermath making them been dependent for the rest of their lives.
Target conducted a study among Congolese population and health professional to clarify causes, symptoms, preventive methods and care. Totally free, this study presents specifically data on the disease in DRC.
Did you know it is during school starts that parents mostly get stroke? According to Target result from this study, the rate of people admitted in hospital suffering from stroke increased, it varies between 3 to 15 cases per week depending on the clinic size; it is high during certain period. Strokes is due to high exposure to stress, this is parent’s case during school start as per the study.
To clarify this, specialised doctors within 6 hospitals in Kinshasa were associated to the research process. 05 were cardiologists and 01 emergency specialist. According these health experts, strokes can be defined in two ways. Either suddenly from a neurological deficit or functional central nervous system incapacity, or complications of thromboembolic diseases (caused by thrombus formation in the bloodstream or clot), cardiovascular (High blood pressure), or metabolic (diabetes, dyslipidemia).
These definitions allow categorize two types of strokes: ischemic type which happens when vessels of the central nervous system are blocked and haemorrhagic type that occurs when vessels break, resulting in hemorrhage. The study also presents board showing symptoms, causes, risks factors of each stroke category before going into medical care.
Even if there is not a direct link with a given occupation and the happening of a stroke, companies General Managers are among the list of the most exposed to stroke risks. According to medical doctors who collaborated during the study, General Managers are exposed to stroke because of risks factors. Advanced aged people are also mentioned as highly exposed, their feeding is rich carbohydrate, they do not exercise and they are exposed to stress.
