TARGET INTRODUCES: PERCEPTION OF COUNTRIES AND ORGANIZATIONS IN DRC

Perception of countries and organizations in DRC is a survey carried out by TARGET within 7 provinces of DRC towards a sample of 3 528 people of which 1008 for Kinshasa and 420 for each province. This survey has been presented at the press this Wednesday 6 November 2013 au TARGET SPRL registered office by Serge MUMBU, Managing Director of the Company.

Congolese people have been interviewed on countries and organizations (Both Congolese and Foreign) which most intervene in the favor of population in the following fields: food supply, good governance and fight against bribery, democracy, economy, education, gender as well as justice and human rights.

It emerges from the survey a high rate of people without opinion noticed as well within partner countries as amongst organizations. This is a sign of great ignorance of companies’ actions by various countries and organizations due to lack of information and/or an absence of significant actions carried out since these actions are not always directed towards Congolese people expectances. To compensate for this issue, TARGET agency recommends a better choice of media and communication supports thanks to post campaign audience and evaluation surveys.

However for those who made an opinion related to partners’ countries, Western countries (especially USA and France) are in the lead of all fields except for that of economy whereas China makes the difference. While at organizations’ level, most of those who have been mentioned are essentially international organizations in general and those of United Nations systems in particular. African countries and local organizations are not very much mentioned, it seems like, in the mind of Congolese people, “it is Western Countries and international organizations that most act in DRC”. An effort is indeed to be done by African countries and local organizations to improve visibility of their actions towards Congolese people. Using communication experts or agencies could be of great use if we really want to effectively reach the target.

Finally the survey reveals the necessity to develop “close” cooperation from provinces instead of all decisions that might be taken in Kinshasa without necessarily taking into account specific needs of each province people. Since, some countries are mentioned in the survey according to geographical or specific actions’ closeness within the region/city; which is the case of Zambia and South Africa (at Lubumbashi), Congo Brazzaville (at Kinshasa), Angola and Japan (at Matadi) Tanzania (at Goma and Bukavu) and France (at Kisangani).
